About laser Hair removal

Men typically seek treatment for large areas of the body such as the back, chest and legs with thick or excessive hair being a source of embarrassment or discomfort for some. Increasingly men with excessive body hair are seeking effective, long-lasting hair removal solutions whether for aesthetics, comfort or performance. In addition to eliminating the need to shave every day, laser hair removal prevents irritation and the development of folliculitis, a condition often experienced by men where one or more hair follicles become inflamed.

What happens during treatment?
Lasers work by delivering an intense beam of light that is absorbed by the skin. This light is converted to heat and is absorbed by the cells being targeted while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected. It is important to understand that hair in the active growth phase is most affected by treatments as the hair contains optimum levels of melanin which is directly targeted by the laser. Both you and your therapist will wear safety glasses to protect your eyes during the procedure.
The therapist will use a small hand piece that touches your skin to deliver the laser pulse. You may feel a light spray of coolant on your skin before each laser pulse. We cover 18mm (20c coin) area per laser shot per second. Our laser machine has a dynamic cooling device which cools the skin on contact, making the treatment more comfortable.
Post Treatment care
In general you should avoid sun exposure and fake tan on the area for two to three weeks before treatment and again one to two weeks after the treatment. We recommend wearing 30+ SPF sunscreen. Be very aware of your skin in the sun after the treatment. Your skin is sun-sensitive and thus it is important not to expose the area to the direct sun. Exfoliate the area three days after the treatment to help the falling out process. It is common for some hair not to fall out and you may shave the area and inform your therapist on your next visit.
Once your treatments have started, forcing the hair from the follicle will reverse the effect of the treatment, therefore waxing and plucking are not recommended. However the client may shave, trim or use depilatory creams or clippers between treatments if needed.
Is laser Hair removal permanent?
Laser permanently removes hair in follicles during the growth (Anagen) phase. At any time about 85% of our hair is in the growth stage and will be removed by laser. During this stage the hair is most receptive to laser as it is rich in protein, keratinided cells and melanin. The amount of time the hair follicle stays in the Anagen phase is determined by your genetic make-up. A hair’s Anagen phase may last for several years with Anagen hairs representing about 85% of our hair. At the conclusion of the Anagen phase the follicle enters the Catagen or transition phase and then the Telogen or resting phase where the hair begins to shed while the follicle is stimulated to begin a new cycle. Hair is not susceptible to laser during the transition and resting phases.
As hair follicles move back to the growth phase they become susceptible to laser treatment and can then be removed permanently. This requires follow up visits. Maintenance visits are required to remove hair from new follicles that start to grow hair. This is why we recommend one to two maintenance visits each year.
Laser Hair Removal treatment is more effective with thick dark hair than it is with thin light hair (or grey, red or blonde hair). If you have natural dark hair and dark skin you can still be benefit from laser treatment for hair removal. However additional treatments are usually required to achieve satisfactory results.

How many treatments do I need?
We recommend at least six to eight treatments, six weeks apart for a significant reduction of up to 75%, providing you are committed to the treatment every six weeks. However if you wish to achieve up to 80% hair loss you may require up to 10-12 treatments due to the higher levels of testosterone in the body. Any remaining hair will be much lighter and softer and will be controlled by a maintenance treatment every four months.
What you need to do before laser hair removal treatment
Unlike waxing, there is no need for long hair. Hair is to be short for your laser treatment, about 2-3 days hair growth. 3mm max. Shave or trim the hair before your treatment. Shorter hair ensures the treatment to be more comfortable for the clients and allows laser to travel down to the follicle faster.
Avoid sun exposure on the area for 2-3 weeks before treatment.
